Foundry’s Valmont Rival 1 is a purebred 'cross racer—an all-conditions, all-terrain machine. The high-modulus, 40-ton carbon frame can't make a 60-minute lung-burner any shorter, but the stiff front and rear thru-axles will increase your high-speed handling, and the svelte seatstays keep the ride compliant so you can go harder longer. A pair of DT Swiss R24 wheels explode out of the turns, while the Clement MXP tires deliver solid grip over dirt, asphalt, and grass alike. For simplicity and excellence, SRAM's Rival 1—with its wide-range 1 x 11 gearing system that nearly eliminates chain slap—shifts impeccably, whether under high torque on a short incline or while powering through the gravel pit. Now you may think brakes only slow you down, but just knowing you have the excellent strength and modulation of SRAM's Rival hydraulic discs lets you set up for turns later and brake less, shaving seconds off the course. Throw in a Zipp aluminum stem and seatpost and a Fizik Antares R7 saddle, and you've got a race-ready CX rig that's dialed for speed. It's hard to be heckled aboard a bike like this.
